Currently I am configuring a social networking section of my site which will be a place to share things. It is built off of Elgg, which is open source software and backed by a great community of users.

Anyway, that’s what I’m doing right now. So check back soon!

Apparently on Turkish television it is acceptable for their news anchor to wear blackface and recite an Obama speech. This just days after a “Turkish plot” to assassinate Obama was foiled. That guy has been released already.

But I digress…

Whodathunk we’d still have pirates in the 21st century going around plundering? I hope the crew (including 20 Americans) escape the ordeal safely.

The times they are a’changin’ it seems, with the Castro Brothers being lauded in Cuba by members of the US Congress.

Meanwhile, Russia is saying “Chill out, US! Iran is no threat to you.” We heard this about Iraq, too. Did that ever matter?

After 2 weeks of bullish running, the stock markets have cooled off, selling off about 3% over the past couple days. The market looks mixed this morning in its open. Without any positive news, I would expect a negative 50-100 point day. The Congressional Oversight Panel issued some doom and gloom sentiment, that the financial crisis is “far from over” and is actually spreading… much like that rash you got last summer from that questionable mate on vacation. Admit it. If you ask Robert Reich (Our nation’s 22nd labor secretary), he’ll tell you “It’s a Depression“.

Congratulations to whoever picked North Carolina to win the NCAA Men’s College Basketball Championship. That would include my co-worker Mike, who beat me in the pool when UNC won it all. Mike deserved it since he was last place in our Fantasy Football League last year.

Back to work…

There was much meat eaten on Sunday, April 5, 2009, in my residence.

Some people came over for the Phillies’ tragic home opener. Not to worry, there are 161 games left.

I don’t watch much TV, but on Sunday nights, my best friend and I regularly watch “Breaking Bad” on AMC. It is a quality show about a brilliant overqualified high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and resorts to producing and distributings crystal meth in order to generate money to leave for his family. Last night’s episode saw Walter White (played by Bryan Cranston) go for cancer treatment. As he leaves, he receives a pin that says “HOPE is the best medicine”. Walt quickly throws it in the garbage. I thought it was a great scene and really showed you Walt’s current mindset.

The Undertaker is still 17-0 following his Wrestlemania victory over Shawn Michaels. I didn’t order Wrestlemania this year, primarily due to the fact that WWE spoiled the ending of the Undertaker match last week!

The stock market currently is trading with losses. This should be no surprise after the euphoria of the G20 summit and a few days of gains has worn off, and the reality of the situation is setting back in.

My heart goes out to those affected by the earthquake in Italy today. Even more troubling is that a scientist who tried to warn the public about the impending natural disaster, was muzzled.

Speaking of muzzled, it looks like the new boss is looking more and more like the old boss, as President Obama has jumped on the States Secrets bandwagon… That ain’t change I can believe in!

But I digress……………..

I watched Wolverine the other night (shhh don’t tell the FBI). It was OK. Though the special effects are what really make a movie like this, the storyline was fairly true to the roots of Wolverine, although many die hard fans might end up dissatisfied with Deadpool (and the corny one-liners!).

If you haven’t heard the band “Does it offend you, yeah?”, you should look into them. I worry that they’ll become too popular now that they have a track being played on all the Fast and Furious commercials. Here is their track, “Doomed Now”, off the album “You have no idea what you’re getting yourself into”:

Have a good day. I’ll write some more later.

Hello World.

The President of Mexico wants the American people to know that drug money is lining the pockets of Washington politicians.

Is this really news to anyone? Does it make it any more credible because the President of Mexico says it? Who knows? Not me.

This all appears to be part of a new movement for drug decriminalization. I can see some very convincing arguments for such action. Legitimizing the business, taxing and regulating it similar to alcohol or cigarettes, and removing the secrecy would probably decrease most of the violence and save everyone money that would otherwise be spent on the “war on drugs”. Then again, one could argue that the world would see an increase in addicts, junkies, and fiends, which may increase crime. I don’t think that’s any more true than saying banning guns would keep them out of the hands of criminals. One could argue that banning guns would also leave the innocent people without guns even more vulnerable.

MSU defeated UCONN to make it to the National Championship game in their own backyard. After the Detroit Lions, GM, Chrysler, Ford, and everything in between, Michigan deserves a break. I’m about to leave for a bit and Nova is already down 11. Is it already ova, Nova?

I woke up today to news that the stock market is set to rally, despite the worry that the US could face a second recession next year.

But, worst of all, Guiding Light is going off the air! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I remember watching this show with my grandmother. It was ahead of its time when it had that murderer dude in drag who had the cameras and laptops wired in the lighthouse and he killed that cop and the cop wrote out “MAR” in blood on the ground, for MARIAN, the name of the guy in drag (when he’s in drag), but the cops blamed it on the only black guy on the show, MARCUS. Brilliant! Or that creepy old dude Roger that everyone kept trying to kill. Whatever happened to him?

Despite the sadness, I find ways to laugh and enjoy life. One way I laugh is by watching John C. Riley’s character “Steve Brule” on Tim and Eric Awesome Show: Great Job! He is apparently getting his own spinoff. For your health!

Anyone who really knows me will tell you that I am often very pleasant to be around and a good addition to any group environment. This, despite my gloom and doom outlook in many areas of life, is just who I am. For years, my skepticism and cynicism, coated with sarcasm and served with a side of jocularity, probably annoyed more people than would care to admit.

What’s it look like today?

Well, we have record job losses to look forward to in an upcoming report. In addition, the G20 summit has become flooded with an odd mix of global warming activists and Federal Reserve protesters. Tomorrow should be even more interesting.

What’s that, Sean Hannity? Those “crazy conspiracy theorists were right”?

The world must be coming to an end. ;(

The newest tally of the money injected into the “financial system” has nearly surpassed the total value of everything produced in America last year. Think about that for a second. It’s almost unfathomable, and is one of many reasons why I couldn’t understage the outrage over AIG’s $200 million bonus payouts, even though Merrill Lynch’s payouts were in double digit multiples of AIG’s. But, let’s be honest; that’s a drop in the bucket, and a distraction.

Speaking of distractions, this blog will become one for me, but a focused one.

How about that Conficker? A bunch of other bugs were floating around the past month, like reader_s. Truth be told, the end-user is ulimately responsible for ensuring system stability. No amount of security software can prevent the user from running malicious software if the end-user invites it in. It’s like when your friend invites someone you don’t care for to your party, and that person invites a few of their friends, whom you also don’t like, who invite a few of their friends. Pretty soon, your crummy house party is overrun with douchebaggery. I wouldn’t know anything about that, though.

Have you ever been awoken by a freakishly nightmarish hailstorm in the early evening before the sun fully set? I have!

It really is beautiful. No doubt about it.

I am amazed at the powers that have been granted to this administration after the last one was criticized so much for expanding their power. Most of the policies are very similar, yet the public seems to accept it. Weird. The Obama administration ousted the head of GM. That’s power. Is it too much? If you had to choose which was more “too much”, Obama firing the guy, or the guy walking away with $20 million? Some called him a sacrificial lamb. Excuse me? Who is sacrificing what, exactly? Timmy G has stated that firing the bank CEOs is an option, just like he said global currency is an option. Maybe neither are true, maybe one, maybe both. We’ll see soon I suppose.

My next blog will be less boring. For now, it’s time to enjoy salad and Wolverine.
